How to Create an Event Stream

Admin or streamer permission is required to create an event stream.

Streams may be created for any event type that needs to be broadcasted, like plays, competitions, meetings, guest speakers, etc. The streamed content is stored within the account for free.

When creating a stream and completing the Livestream form, multiple streaming device options are available. When setting up the stream with an external camera instead of a mobile phone, extra steps are required to sync the stream properly.

To view the specific steps to create a stream with an external camera, click the desired option:

On a Browser

  1. Log in to the website.

  2. At the top of the screen, select the desired team from the team dropdown.

  3. From the left navigation menu, click Live Stream.

  4. From the top right corner, click Create New Stream.

  5. Fill out the Livestream form.

    • Events within the Team's SportsEngine system display as suggested.

  6. Click Create Livestream.

  7. To view the Stream Key and RTMP, click Show Stream Key and RTMP info.

    • The Stream Key and RTMP info is only needed if streaming with an external camera, instead of a mobile device.

    • At the right side of each field, click the copy to clipboard icon to copy the Stream Key or RTMP info.

  8. Click Okay.

On the App

  1. Download, sign up, or log in to the app.

  2. Tap the stream page icon.

  3. At the top of the screen, tap the team dropdown to select the desired team.

  4. Tap the create stream icon.

  5. Fill out the Livestream form.

    • Events within the Team's SportsEngine system display as suggested.

  6. Tap Continue.

  7. The Stream Key and RTMP information for streaming with special devices is now available. If streaming with a mobile device, tap Close.

With OBS

  1. Log in to the website.

  2. Click Live Stream.

  3. At the top of the screen, click the team dropdown to select the desired team.

  4. Click Create new stream.

  5. Fill out the Livestream form as desired.

    • Events within the Team's SportsEngine system display as suggested.

    • Under Streaming Device, select OBS.

  6. Click Create Livestream.

  7. At the bottom of the page, click Show Stream Key and RTMP info. Make note of this information.

  8. Download OBS to the computer.

  9. Open the OBS application.

  10. From the bottom right corner, click Settings.

  11. From the left navigation menu, click Stream.

  12. Using the Service dropdown, select Custom.

  13. Under Server, enter the "RTMP information."

  14. Enter the "Stream Key."

  15. Click Ok.

  16. Click Start Streaming.

With OBS and Hudl Focus

  1. Download OBS to the computer.

  2. Open the OBS application.

  3. In the OBS application, under Sources, click + icon > Media Source.

  4. Ensure Create new is checked and enter the name for the Media Source (e.g., Hudl Focus Main Gym).

  5. Click Ok.

  6. Uncheck the Local File box.

  7. Check the Restart playback when source becomes active box.

  8. Using the Input field, enter the exact "RTMP URL."

  9. Using the Input Format field, enter the "RTMP."

  10. Uncheck Show nothing when playback ends box.

  11. Uncheck Close file when inactive box.

  12. Click Ok.

  13. Right-click on the added source.

  14. Click Transform > Fit to Screen.

  15. Log in to the app.

  16. Tap the stream page icon.

  17. At the top of the screen, tap the team dropdown to select the desired team.

  18. Tap the create stream icon.

  19. Fill out the Livestream form.

    • Events within the Team's SportsEngine system display as suggested.

    • Under Streaming Device, select Hudl Focus.

    • Two check circles appear. Check via OBS or VMix option.

  20. Tap Create Livestream.

With YouTube and Hudl Focus

  1. Open the Hudl Focus app.

  2. Tap the upcoming recording.

  3. Tap the toggle icon to ON to live stream the event on YouTube.

  4. Tap the update icon.

  5. Double-check that the event will stream on YouTube.

    • On the Hudl Focus app, under the event details, “Will stream on YouTube” is displayed.

  6. Login to the SportsEngine Studio app.

  7. Tap the stream page icon.

  8. At the top of the screen, tap the team dropdown to select the desired team.

  9. Tap the create stream icon.

  10. Fill out the Livestream form.

    • Events within the Team's SportsEngine system display as suggested.

    • Under Streaming Device, select Hudl Focus.

    • Two check circles appear. Check via YouTube Live option.

  11. Paste the YouTube URL, if available.

    • This field can be updated later, by editing the stream.

  12. Tap Create Livestream.

With GoPro and GoPro App

To stream with a GoPro camera, you will need:

  • GoPro Camera Hero7 Black or newer model.

  • Phone with the GoPro App.

  • Wi-Fi connection.

To create the event and stream with GoPro:

  1. Download, sign up, or log in to the app.

  2. Tap the stream page icon.

  3. At the top of the screen, tap the team dropdown to select the desired team.

  4. Tap the Create stream icon.

  5. Fill out the Livestream form as desired.

    • Events within the Team's SportsEngine system display as suggested.

    • Under Streaming Device, select GoPro.

  6. Tap Create Livestream.

  7. The RTMP and Stream Key information for streaming with special devices is now available. Keep this information handy.

  8. Open the GoPro App.

  9. If it is the first time using the GoPro App, with the camera on and nearby, from the top-right corner, tap the camera icon > + icon. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  10. If this is not the first time using the App, but the camera needs to reconnect, tap the camera icon > Control Your GoPro.

  11. Tap Live.

  12. Select the RTMP option.

  13. Connect to the Wi-Fi network.

  14. Locate the RTMP and Stream Key. At the RTMP URL field, enter the RTMP and the Stream Key in the same field, with no spaces in between.

    • For example, for the following RTMPS & Stream Key, enter stmps://0kkd987b2b95.globkl}contsibute.lie}ideo.net:443/kpp/sk_usekst}1_O5OZ5H7MNOO_clnAVlk9sPYuKsOnKeZ61VYUwz8zI

      • RTMPS - stmps://0kkd987b2b95.globkl}contsibute.lie}ideo.net:443/kpp/

      • Stream Key -sk_usekst}1_O5OZ5H7MNOO_ClnAVlk9sPYuKsOnKeZ61VYUwz8zI

  15. Select the resolution. 720p is recommended.

  16. If desired, toggle Save a Copy. We automatically store the streaming video in your account 15 minutes after the stream ends.

With VMix

The VMix software is available for Windows only.

  1. Log in to the website.

  2. Click Live Stream.

  3. At the top of the screen, click the team dropdown to select the desired team.

  4. Click Create new stream.

  5. Fill out the Livestream form as desired.

    • Events within the Team's SportsEngine system display as suggested.

    • Under Streaming Device, select VMix.

  6. Click Create Livestream.

  7. At the bottom of the page, click Show Stream Key and RTMP info. Make note of this information.

  8. Download Vmix to the computer.

  9. Open the VMix application.

  10. At the bottom of the page, by the Stream stream button, click the gear icon.

  11. At the Destination dropdown, select Custom RTMP Server.

  12. Under the URL, enter the "RTMP information."

  13. Under Stream Name or Key, enter the "Stream Key information."

  14. Click Save & Close.

  15. At the bottom of the page, click Stream.

If the stream was already created, edit the event to adjust the streaming device and locate the RTMP and Stream Key information to sync.
